LOVE

Alex celebrated his recent big number birthday on a retreat in Montana, where he prayed for a wonderful woman and the adventure of a family in the next chapter of his life. A month later, while driving through the Berkshires, Alex ran out of gas in Monterey MA (Emily’s tiny hometown). While waiting for AAA Alex logged on to a dating app, found Emily, and sent a charming message.

At that very time, Emily was driving back to the Berkshires after a week on the beach. In the car, Emily found herself praying out loud for her future husband & the adventure of a family. That night an adorable message from Alex came through.

Em suggested meeting for coffee in Stockbridge the next day for what turned into an 8 hour first date! They’ve be pretty much inseparable ever since.

Since their courtship began the pair has traveled the world t and cooked up a storm.

MEET EM & ALEX

Emily was born to a family of performers on Long Island. From the age of 4, Em entertained at parties as Sunny the Clown (side kick to her mom, Goo-See the Clown) and ran lines with her dad, Richard, for community theater productions. When Em was 9, she and her mom, Val, moved to a cottage in Monterey MA where Em played in the woods and made life-long friendships. Em’s studies, work, adventures with Val, and willingness to travel any distance for a party have taken her all over the world.

Em believes everything is preparation. Like all of the best things, Em’s career in ecclesiastical art and architecture unfolded in unexpected ways. After grad school, when Val was diagnosed with cancer, Em spent time in Monterey soaking up her mama. As Val went into remission, Em’s dad began to decline, so she took a job in NYC to be closer to him. That job with EverGreene became a vocation championing beauty in the built environment and invited her to dive into theology. Exploring the intersection of art and faith was profound preparation for changes on the horizon.

Val passed away in 2019. During the shutdown Em and her cousin, Taylor, took refuge in the cottage. Life on the mountain was a welcomed change from constant travel. It was onto the fresh pages of this new chapter that Alex arrived. Emily is over the moon to embark on this adventure with such a playful, loving, and capable companion.

Alex was formed by his childhood experiences navigating all things aquatic in coastal Massachusetts. As an adult, Alex sailed far far away from home in pursuit of professional and learning experiences that allowed him to live, work, and travel to many of the world's amazing places.

Most of Alex's professional life has been dedicated to either architecture/urban design or education, with the best moments existing in the intersection between the two.

Along the way, Alex has also worked as a travel writer, carpenter in historic preservation, educational entrepreneur, and most importantly as a caregiver for both his aging grandmother and father.

In caring for his father, Alex returned to the town he was born in where he surprised himself by settling into the small town Massachusetts life of his childhood. For Alex, this was a move that got him ready to receive the love of an amazing woman from a different kind of small Massachusetts town.
